Metallized plastic sheeting in the prevention of hypothermia during neurosurgery.
Metallized plastic sheeting (m.p.s.) was found to be ineffective in the prevention of hypothermia in adult patients studied during neurosurgical operations. Twenty patients were wrapped in m.p.s. and 22 patients acted as controls. Mean oesophageal temperature in the m.p.s. group decreased from 36.2 degrees C to 35.4 degrees C after 3 h (control 36.5 degrees C to 35.4 degrees C). It was conclude...
متن کاملReduction of heat loss in neurosurgical patients using metallized plastic sheeting.
Metallized plastic sheeting (m.p.s.) was used in 14 neurosurgical patients and changes in body heat content during surgery compared with those of 14 control patients. All patients, except three in the study group and one in the control group, lost heat by the end of the operation. There was, however, a statistically significant reduction in heat loss in the patients wrapped in m.p.s. Measuremen...
متن کاملTriangulations for Rubber-sheeting
This paper focuses on the application of triangulation and rubber-sheeting techniques to the problem of merging two digitized map files. The Census Bureau is currently developing a map merging procedure called conflation. Reproducibility, quality control, and a desire for mathematical consistency in conflation lead to a need for well-defined procedures. The Delaunay triangulation is well-define...
متن کاملThe indoor use of plastic sheeting pre-impregnated with insecticide for control of malaria vectors.
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the efficacy of permethrin-treated plastic sheeting (ITPS) applied as a lining to the ceiling or walls of rooms against pyrethroid-susceptible and pyrethroid-resistant Anopheles gambiae. METHOD Overnight tests were carried out in veranda-trap experimental huts in Vallée du Kou, where two molecular forms of A. gambiae, S and M, occur. The S form is mostly pyrethroid resis...
متن کاملHighly-metallized phosphonium polyelectrolytes.
The synthesis and characterization of a novel class of highly-metallized, redox-active polyelectrolytes that employ phosphorus as a scaffold for the installation of transition metals is described. Pyrolysis of thin films of the title polyelectrolytes resulted in the production of magnetite crystallites and ill-defined carbon-, phosphorus- and oxygen-rich phases in char yields of nearly 50%.
